Building Excellence Celebrated at the 2024 National Awards
The National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards for 2024 recognised a diverse range of projects and individuals across Australia. The awards, which are presented by Master Builders Australia, highlight the exceptional work being done in the building and construction industry.
Residential Projects
The PALA project, a luxurious canal home on the Gold Coast, received the prestigious National Residential Master Builder of the Year award. Built by Queensland-based Havendeen, PALA is a stunning example of modern design that embraces its waterfront location. The home’s unique design allows it to capture northern sun and breezes, and it features an expansive outdoor area with an infinity lawn, resort-style pool, fire pit and entertainer’s pavilion.
In New South Wales, The Isles, a collection of nine waterfront residences in Drummoyne, won the National Medium Density – over five dwellings award. Developed by Made Property, The Isles offers residents a secluded haven with its own private beach and jetty, and balconies that overlook a tranquil harbour garden.
Commercial and High-Rise Projects
The skyline of North Sydney was transformed with the completion of 88 Walker, a towering 50-level mixed-use development that claimed the National Construction Master Builder of the Year award for Billbergia. Standing 180 metres tall, 88 Walker is North Sydney’s tallest building and incorporates the heritage-listed Firehouse Hotel into its facade. The building has achieved a 5-star Green Star rating for its sustainable design, which includes features such as a double-height lobby, pedestrian walkways and extensive amenities. 88 Walker also boasts a 252-suite hotel, complete with a reception, restaurant, lounge and gym facilities, and 24 levels of open-plan office spaces that offer panoramic views of Sydney Harbour.
In Melbourne, Aspire, a striking 65-storey residential tower developed by Hickory, received the National High Rise Apartment Building award. This impressive structure houses 594 apartments and offers residents an array of luxurious amenities, including boardrooms, a library, a media room, a whiskey parlour and a hydro spa.
Other Notable Winners
The National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award – Retirement Villages – Built was presented to Built for their Waterfront Cottesloe Redevelopment Project – Stage 1BC in Western Australia. This project expanded the existing development to encompass 76 independent living units, along with three commercial tenancy spaces, landscaped areas, plaza areas, a gymnasium, yoga studio, an ocean lounge and a pool.
Matt Cates from South Australia was named National Young Builder of the Year, while Tyler Love from New South Wales received the National Apprentice of the Year award. These awards recognise the emerging talent and future leaders of the Australian building industry.
